Social Action
Founded in 1920, Mu Omega Chapter has a long and illustrious tradition of Social and Civic Action. In addition to aggressively implementing internationally mandated programs, Mu Omega is the founding chapter of the Dr. Charles R. Drew memorial Blood Drive, which was the template for the Fraternity’s Blood Drive initiative.
Throughout its history, Mu Omega Chapter has been a leading social and civic action organization in the Philadelphia region, and beyond. Two recent examples of Mu Omega's efforts:
Hurricane Katrina Response Effort
The Brothers of Mu Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. collected and donated $5,000 worth of clothing, toiletries, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. phone cards. These were presented to the Philadelphia Department of Human Services who spearheaded the Hurricane Relief Effort for the City of Philadelphia.
Mu Omega Book Drive
The Brothers of Mu Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. collected school books valued at $4,500, and collected through donations the shipping costs of $2,500 from Mu Omega members, family, friends and co-workers. All books were shipped to Ghana to support educational relief efforts due to schools and books destroyed in a Tsunami.
